Haute Fagnes

In der Nähe der Baraque Michel im hohen Venn führt ein Holzsteg über einen kleinen Bach, den Oberlauf der Hill, wie ich nachher auf der Karte sehe. Neben dem Bach steht ein obeliskförmiger Grenzstein. Während ich zeichne, bekomme ich insgesamt 13 Textnachrichten auf mein Telefon, die mich abwechselnd in Belgien und Luxemburg begrüßen. Eigentlich ist hier nur Belgien, Deutschland ist nicht weit, aber Luxemburg doch viele Kilometer südlich. Allerdings sehe ich auf einer Infotafel, dass das Großherzogtum Luxemburg achtzehnhundertirgendas genau bis zu dem Grenzstein ging.

Near the Baraque Michel in the ‘Haute Fagnes’, a wooden footbridge leads over a small stream, the upper course of the river ‘Helle’, as I see later on the map. Next to the stream is an obelisk-shaped boundary stone. As I draw, I get a total of 13 text messages on my phone, greeting me alternately in Belgium and Luxembourg. Actually, there is only Belgium here, Germany is not far, but Luxembourg is many kilometres to the south. However, I see on an information board that the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg went exactly to the border stone until the a year eighteenhundredsomething.
