At the Central Bus Station, between the bus platforms and Messedamm, on the ground floor of a two-storey concrete building that was gutted and refurbished during the redevelopment, is the BISTRO.DÖNER.CHINABOX.COFFEESHOP. Inside, there are two counters: one at the front serving Asian noodles, coffee and similar items, along with some pastries, and one further back for the kebab and falafel section. There also seem to be pizzas and burgers available somewhere. At the entrance is a large refrigerated drinks display. There are seats along the windows facing the buses, and there are power sockets there too.
The man next to my table had a plate of noodles and is now charging his mobile phone, on which he is also texting from time to time.

The music changes. The rock-heavy hip-hop from when I arrived is followed by Europop from a bloke with synthetically enhanced vocals. People order kebabs and tend to sit by the windows. Then a rather burly, bearded man arrives with an equally substantial plate of kebab and chips, which he eats intently with a knife and fork. He’s got proper metal cutlery – I had to eat my falafel box with a flimsy plastic fork. mean.
