Wir fahren Samstag früh mit dem Zug in den Harz, nach Thale und laufen nach Treseburg und durch das Bodetal wieder zurück. | We take the train to Thale in the Harz Mountains early on Saturday morning, then walk to Tresenburg and back through the Bode Valley.
Auf dem Rückweg sitzen wir eine Weile am Fluss, der hier am Ufer flach und breit daherfliesst. Im Flussbett wachsen rosa traubig blühende Pflanzen. Ich identifiziere sie per App als ‚gewöhnlichen Pestwurz‘. Der Name scheint nicht abfällig gemeint zu sein, die Pflanze wurde wohl zur Behandlung von Geschwüren verwendet. | On the way back, we sit for a while by the river, which flows gently and broadly along the bank here. Plants with clusters of pink flowers grow in the riverbed. I identify them using an app as ‘common butterbur’, in German ‚gewöhnlicher Pestwurz‘, ‚Pest‘ meaning plague. The name does not seem to be meant as a slur – the plant was apparently used to treat ulcers.
Abends kommen wir wieder in Thale an und fahren mit dem Bus nach Quedlinburg und übernachten dort. Am Sonntag laufen wir erst staunend durchs Weltkulturerbe, gucken im Museum Feininger und dann stelle ich mich auf den Schlossberg und male Dächer. | In the evening, we arrive back in Thale and take the bus to Quedlinburg, where we spend the night. On Sunday, we start by strolling through the World Heritage Site in awe, visit the Feininger Museum, and then I head up to the Schlossberg and paint rooftops.
