Kantstraße

Bei meinem letzten Besuch bei McDonalds fiel mir der Blick vom Obergeschoß auf die Kreuzung der Kant- und Wilmersdorferstraße auf. Heute Abend bin ich nur zum Gucken hier – elegante Fensterreihen, historische Beschriftung über der seit Jahren mit provisorischer Baustelleinfahrt versehenen ‘Einkaufsstraße’. Im Schnellrestaurant Radiomusik, ab und zu geht jemand hier im OG auf Toilette oder Angestellte räumen Zeug weg, niemanden stört der Typ mit Kaffee- und Tuschebecher.

During my last visit to McDonalds, I was struck by the view from the top floor to the intersection of Kant- and Wilmersdorferstraße. Tonight I’m just here to watch – elegant rows of windows, historical lettering above the ‘shopping street’. In the fast food restaurant radio music, now and then someone goes to the toilet here on the upper floor or employees clear away stuff, nobody is bothered by the guy with the coffee and ink cup.

An den Kantgaragen (links hinter mir) wird herumgebaut. Der Strom dafür wird mit einer an Stahlrohrpfählen angeschellten Leitung ran geschafft. Die Pfähle stecken in rot-weiss-gestreiften Betonzylindern (auf denen es sich gut sitzt) Ein gelb markierter ‘Pop-Up-Radweg’ macht die Kantstraße neuerdings auch für Radfahrer ohne Lebensgefahr befahrbar.

The ‘Kantgarage’ (behind me on the left) are under construction. The electricity for this is supplied by a line connected to tubular steel piles. The piles are stuck in red-and-white striped concrete cylinders (on which it sits well). Lately, a yellow marked ‘pop-up cycle path’ makes the Kantstraße passable for cyclists without danger to life.
