Hohenzollernkanal

‘Hohenzollernkanal‘ war der alte Name des ‘Berlin-Spandauer Schifffahrtskanals’. Der schneidet ein Stück des alten Kanalverlaufs, das eine für moderne Schiffsgrößen zu enge Kurve hatte, ab. Ich sitze an diesem Abschnitt, dem ‘alten BSK’ oder halt ‘Hohenzollernkanal’.

An einem eingezäunten Stück Ufer liegen Boote an einem Steg. Einige sind mit Planen abgedeckt und sehen aus, als wären sie lange nicht benutzt worden. Auf anderen feiern Menschen den Feiertag, Musik – furchtbarer Deutsch-Rap:( – Geruch nach verbrannten Würsten. Ab und zu paddeln Männer in diversen Booten vorbei. Mein Favorit, ein bärtiger Typ mit Sonnenbrille bläst ausdauernd auf einer Entenlockpfeife.

Im stillen Wasser brüten Mücken. Die stärken sich vor der Eiablage mit ein paar kräftigen Zügen Blut eines wehrlosen (da zeichnenden) Opfers.

‚Hohenzollern Canal‘ was the old name of the ‚Berlin-Spandau Shipping Canal‘. It cuts off a section of the old canal that had a curve that was too tight for modern ships. I’m sitting on this section of the ‚old BSK‘ or ‚Hohenzollern Canal‘. 

Boats are moored at a jetty on a fenced-off section of the bank. Some are covered with tarpaulins and look as if they haven’t been used for a long time. On others, people are celebrating the holiday, music – terrible German rap:( – the smell of burnt sausages. From time to time, men in various boats paddle past. My favourite, a bearded guy with sunglasses, blows persistently on a duck decoy whistle.

Mosquitoes breed in the still water. They fortify themselves before laying their eggs with a couple of vigorous draws of blood from a defenceless (drawing) victim.
