Mitte Juni fliegen wir nach Faro – im ‘Museu Municipal de Faro‘ haben wir Karten für ‘Fado no Museu’. Ich zeichne zu lange den Blick von der 1. Etage des Kreuzgangs des ehemaligen Klosters, in dem das Museum ist, und höre das Konzert dann durch eine geschlossene Tür. Ich komme nicht rein und zeichne nochmal ein Stück Kreuzgang.
In mid-June we fly to Faro – in the ‘Museu Municipal de Faro’ we have tickets for ‘Fado no Museu’. I spend too long drawing the view from the 1st floor of the cloister of the former convent where the museum is, and then hear the concert through a closed door. I can’t get in and draw another piece of cloister.
Am Abend sitzen wir auf der Terrasse des ‘Amura’ am Kai zwischen Hafen und Lagune. Dort haben wir am Vormittag eine Fahrt mit einem Solarboot durchgeführt – der Bootsführer hat uns auf viele der Vögel in der Lagune hingewiesen, deren Namen er in allen möglichen Sprachen kannte. Jetzt ist Ebbe und wir schauen in Richtung des Flughafens am Westrand der Lagune, wo die Sonne untergeht.
In the evening we sit on the terrace of the ‘Amura’ on the quay between the harbour and the lagoon. We took a solar boat trip there in the morning – the boatman pointed out many of the birds in the lagoon, whose names he knew in all sorts of languages. Now it is low tide and we look towards the airport on the western edge of the lagoon, where the sun is setting.
Am nächsten Morgen zeichne ich den Blick aus dem Fenster unseres Guesthouses – das geht wieder nach Süd-Westen, wie an den Richtung Flughafen fliegenden Flugzeugen zu erkennen ist.
The next morning I draw the view out of the window of our guesthouse – it is again to the south-west, as can be seen from the planes flying towards the airport.
Am Vorabend haben wir erfahren, dass wir den frühen Zug nach Lagos nehmen müssen, da ab Mittag gestreikt wird und keine Züge mehr fahren. Wir sind früh am Bahnhof und haben Zeit, im Bahnhofscafé zu frühstücken. Dort ist viel los, genau wie im Zug nach Lagos.
The evening before, we learn that we have to take the early train to Lagos, as there will be a strike from noon and no more trains. We are at the station early and have time to have breakfast at the station café. There is a lot of activity there, just like on the train to Lagos.
Wir haben ein paar Stunden Zeit und laufen durch Lagos. Am Rande der Innenstadt setze ich mich auf irgendeine Bank und zeichne den Blick. Dann wird es Zeit, zum Busbahnhof zu gehen. Wir wollen weiter ins Alentejo.
We have a few hours and walk through Lagos. On the edge of the city centre, I sit on some bench and draw a random view. Then it’s time to go to the bus station. We want to go on to the Alentejo.
