Sunday evening at the Spreekreuz, the car traffic echoes softly over the sounds of the sports field (from behind the poplars on the left), the clattering of plates (from the balconies behind me), playground squeaking (from the other bank of the Spree on the right), the chatter of adolescents (from a small group on the bank just opposite, in front of the residential blocks), the splashing of waves (after an excursion boat has passed by) and the occasional waterfowl squawking.
