Das Gelände um den VAUBEKA Portalkran ist abgezäunt, ein Bauschild für den ‚Food Campus‘ steht hinter dem Zaun. Durch ein Lücke gehe ich rein und setze mich auf einen Betonklotz bei der ‚Landseite‘ des Krans. Der hatte, wie ich der Website Industriekultur Berlin entnehme, einen heroischen Einsatz während der Luftbrücke 1948/49. Er verlud die zum nahe gelegenen Flughafen Tempelhof eingeflogene Steinkohle auf Kähne im Teltowkanal, so dass sie zu den Heizkraftwerken transportiert werden konnte. Der Kanal unter der Spitze des Kranträgers ist hier recht tief eingeschnitten. Ich sehe nur die Uferbäume hinter der Brache. Irgendwann läuft ein Fuchs über die Fläche.
The area around the VAUBEKA gantry crane is fenced off and a construction sign for the ‚Food Campus‘ stands behind the fence. I go in through a gap and sit down on a concrete block on the ‚land side‘ of the crane. As I learn from the Industriekultur Berlin website, it was used heroically during the 1948/49 airlift, loading the coal flown in to nearby Tempelhof Airport onto barges in the Teltow Canal so that it could be transported to the thermal power stations. The canal below the top of the crane girder is quite deep here. I can only see the bank trees behind the fallow land. At some point, a fox runs across the area.
