Natürlich gehe ich heute, am 27.12. Geschenke umtauschen. Das geht sehr gut. Es gibt Prozesse, die den ausgegebenen Betrag ohne Servicegebühren erstatten. Nur die Punktabzüge auf dem persönlichen Karma-Konto werden nicht erfasst.
Einen Teil des erstatteten Betrags investiere ich am Coffee-Bike im Europa-Center und schaue auf Gewusel und Geglitzer.

Von der Schulenburgbrücke schaue ich auf das Betonwerk im Spandauer Südhafen. An den beiden Hafenkränen sind an allen Trägern mit Bügeln gesicherte Leitern. Ich stelle mir vor, wie es wohl ist, da rauf zu klettern. Der Blick zur Havel Richtung Wannsee, wo gerade die Sonne untergeht, ist bestimmt schön. An den Blick nach unten auf den Kai denke ich lieber nicht.

From the Schulenburg Bridge, I look at the concrete plant in Spandau’s southern harbour. There are ladders secured with brackets on all the beams of the two harbour cranes. I imagine what it must be like to climb up there. The view of the Havel towards Wannsee, where the sun is just setting, must be beautiful. I prefer not to think about the view down to the quay.

stop appeasing russia’s war!
STOP APPEASING RUSSIA’S WAR – HÖRT AUF, RUSSLANDS KRIEG ZU BESCHWICHTIGEN! – dieses Motto wurde zu der eigentlich als REPowerEU geplanten Kundgebung vor dem Bundeskanzleramt in Berlin ergänzt. Der jüngst präsentierte, offenbar nach russischem Diktat und ohne Beteiligung Europas und vor allem der Ukraine entstandene ‘Friedensplan’ machte die Ergänzung notwendig, ohne das die Forderung, die europäische Energieunabgängigkeit endlich umzusetzen, weniger wichtig wurde. Aufgerufen haben Vitsche , Razom we stand , und urgewald .
In der Kälte vor dem Kanzleramt stehen ein paar hundert Menschen, viele mit ukrainischen Fahnen. Es gibt viele beindruckende Reden, unbedingte Solidarität mit der Ukraine, die auch Europas Demokratie verteidigt, Trauer um Opfer russischer Aggression und viele konkrete Forderungen, unter Anderem nach effektiveren Sanktionen gegen die Russische Kriegswirtschaft, zur sofortigen und vollständigen Umsetzung einer europäischen Energieunabhängigkeit, Lieferung von Taurus. Die Redner unterstreichen ihren Wunsch nach einem sofortigen und gerechten Frieden. Die im Russisch-Amerikanischen Plan aufgelisteten Forderungen würden aber russische Besatzung (unter der bisher mehr Zivilisten starben, als bei aktiven Kämpfen), bedeuten und die Menschen in der Ukraine (und anderswo) ungeschützt zu erwartenden weiteren Agressionen Russlands aussetzen.

STOP APPEASING RUSSIA’S WAR – this slogan was added to the rally in front of the Federal Chancellery in Berlin, which was actually planned as REPowerEU. The recently presented “peace plan”, apparently dictated by Russia and drawn up without the involvement of Europe and, above all, Ukraine, made the addition necessary, without diminishing the importance of the demand to finally implement European energy independence. The rally was organised by Vitsche , Razom we stand and urgewald.
A few hundred people stand in the cold in front of the Chancellery, many carrying Ukrainian flags. There are many impressive speeches, unconditional solidarity with Ukraine, which also defends European democracy, mourning for the victims of Russian aggression and many concrete demands, including more effective sanctions against the Russian war economy, the immediate and complete implementation of European energy independence, and the delivery of Taurus missiles. The speakers emphasise their desire for an immediate and just peace. However, the demands listed in the Russian-American plan would mean Russian occupation (under which more civilians have died so far than in active combat) and expose the people of Ukraine (and elsewhere) to further Russian aggression without protection.

Hardenbergstraße | Joachimsthaler Straße
Ich sitze auf den Betonständern eines provisorischen Schildes an der Kreuzung der Joachimsthaler mit der Hardenbergstraße. Diagonal gegenüber ist das Huthmacher Haus. Während ich mich durch die mit rhythmisch angeordneten Rahmen in unterschiedlichen Proportion zusammengefassten Fensterelemente pinsele, wird vor meiner Nase flaniert. Der Menschenstrom ist ampelgeregelt – Abwechselnd passieren Menschen in Autos und zu Fuß. Autos kommen wegen samstäglicher Enge nicht so gut durch und die Menschen darin hupen daher schon mal, während die Fußgänger warten und dabei ihre weitere Einkaufsplanung besprechen. Dann haben die Menschen ohne Autos grün und passieren die Kreuzung problemlos.

I am sitting on the concrete posts of a temporary sign at the intersection of Joachimsthaler Strasse and Hardenbergstrasse. Diagonally opposite is the Huthmacher House. As I brush my way through the window elements, grouped together in rhythmically arranged frames of varying proportions, people stroll past right in front of me. The flow of people is regulated by traffic lights – cars pass alternately, but due to the Saturday congestion, they don’t get through very well and therefore honk their horns, while pedestrians wait and discuss their further shopping plans. Then the people without cars get the green light and pass through the intersection smoothly.

Wir waren Stadtbild auf der Spontandemo heute (19.10.25) am Brandenburger Tor. Nach Veranstalterangaben waren wir 5000 (Polizei: 1800).
Die rassistische Aussage von Friedrich Merz über die Notwendigkeit weiterer Abschiebungen um das von ihm und seinen Parteifreunden wahrgenommenen Problem im Stadtbild zu beheben, hat uns hierher gebracht. Wir wenden uns gegen die Normalisierung von Rassismus und Ausgrenzung von allem als ‘fremd’ empfundenen in Kommunikation und Handeln unserer aktuellen Regierung. Wir beklagen populistische und von Hass getriebene Politik gegen Migranten und sozial Schwache und fordern stattdessen, die drängenden Probleme solidarisch und lösungsorientiert anzugehen. Das stellen Max (@maximal.demokratisch) und Luna Moebius (@luna.moebiusj) in engagierten Reden dar.

Özgür Özvatan (@oezguer.oezvatan) bringt in seiner wenig motivierenden Rede seine Frustration mit dem aus seiner Sicht offenbar hoffnungslos gescheiterten zivilgesellschaftlichen Widerstand gegen eine stetig rechts driftende Politik mit teilweise diffus adressierten Beschimpfungen zum Ausdruck. Die Moderatorin der Veranstaltung, Shanon Bobinger (@shanon_sippingrealiteas) ahnte was kommt, und kündigte ihn an, er werde uns jetzt mit einer Rede “behelligen”. Applaus gab es dann auch keinen. Seine Frustration konnte ich verstehen bis teilweise teilen, was das zu dieser Gelegenheit sollte, ist mir schleierhaft.
Musik gab es von Cesco (@cesco.blz), Julienne Mbodje (@juliepascale.musik) und anderen (Namen trage ich nach, wenn ich sie rausfinde).We were part of the spontaneous demonstration today (19 October 2025) at the Brandenburg Gate. According to the organisers, there were 5,000 of us (police: 1,800).
Friedrich Merz’s racist statement about the need for further deportations to remedy what he and his party colleagues perceive as problems in the cityscape brought us here. We oppose the normalisation of racism and the exclusion of everything perceived as ‘foreign’ in the communication and actions of our current government. We deplore populist and hate-driven policies against migrants and the socially disadvantaged and instead call for the urgent problems to be addressed in a spirit of solidarity and with a focus on solutions. This is presented by Max and Luna Moebius in passionate speeches.
In his uninspiring speech, Özgür Özvatan expresses his frustration with what he sees as the hopeless failure of civil society resistance against a steadily right-wing drift in politics, with some of his insults directed at vague targets. The moderator of the event, Shanon Bobinger, sensed what was coming and announced that he would now “bother” us with a speech. There was no applause. I could understand and even share some of his frustration, but what that had to do with this occasion is beyond me.
