Fridays for Future hat am Sonntag (21.01.2024) zur Demonstration „Demokratie verteidigen: Zusammen gegen Rechts“ aufgerufen. Je nach Quelle kamen zwischen 100 000 – 350 000 Menschen zum Platz der Republik am Reichstag, um gegen Hass, Hetze und die AfD zu demonstrieren. Wir waren so viele, dass wir den geplanten Protestzug gar nicht alle durchführen konnten, sondern zu Musik und Reden am Rande des überfüllten Platzes blieben. Am Wochenende haben in Deutschland min. 900 000 Menschen in unterschiedlichen Städten an ähnlichen Demonstrationen teilgenommen.

Die Demonstranten eint das Ziel, der AfD und anderen rechten Gruppen zu zeigen, dass wir ihre menschenverachtende Politik ablehnen. Wir fordern, dass ein Verbotsverfahren gegen diese in einzelnen Landesverbänden ja schon vom Verfassungsschutz bestätigt verfassungsfeindliche Partei einzuleiten. Wir wissen, dass der Ausgang ungewiss ist.

Viele Redner betonen auch, dass wir es ablehnen, wenn Politiker Themensetzungen der Rechten übernehmen, und aggressive Lösungen für vermeintliche oder echte Probleme auf dem Rücken von Minderheiten fordern oder umsetzen. So stellt man die AfD ganz offensichtlich nicht ‘politisch’, so wie es viele, die sie mit ihren unsolidarischen Positionierungen seit Jahren fördern, ja anstelle eines Verbotes tun wollen. Wir lehnen auch das ‘Rückführungserleichterungsgesetz’ der aktuellen Regierung ab. Die AfD muss gesellschaftlich, juristisch und politisch bekämpft werden. Das sollten wir mit solidarischer Politik tun!

Fridays for Future has called for a demonstration on Sunday (21 January 2024) entitled “Defending democracy: Together against the right”. Depending on the source, between 100,000 and 350,000 people came to Platz der Republik at the Reichstag to demonstrate against hatred, hate speech and the AfD. There were so many of us that we couldn’t all take part in the planned protest march, but stayed on the edge of the crowded square to listen to music and listen to speeches. At least 900,000 people took part in similar demonstrations in various cities in Germany at the weekend.

The demonstrators are united by the goal of showing the AfD and other right-wing groups that we reject their inhuman policies. We are calling for a ban procedure to be initiated against this anti-constitutional party, whos anti-constitutionality has already been confirmed by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution in individual state associations. We know that the outcome is uncertain.

Many speakers also emphasised that we reject it when politicians adopt right-wing themes and demand or implement aggressive solutions to supposed or real problems on the backs of minorities. This is obviously not the way to defete the AfD by politics, as many of those who have been promoting it for years with their unsupportive positions want to do instead of banning it. We also reject the current government’s ‘Return Facilitation Act’. The AfD must be combated socially, legally and politically. We should do this with solidarity.
