Stettin

Sonntag fahre ich spontan mit dem Bus nach Stettin. Nach drei Stunden Fahrt bin ich dort, suche mir Frühstück und gerate dann auf den plac Solidarności.

On Sunday, I spontaneously take the bus to Szczecin. After three hours drive I’m there, have breakfast and then end up on the plac Solidarności.

Dort erinnert eine Plastik von Czesław Dźwigaj, der ‘Anioł Wolności’, ‚Engel der Freiheit‘ an die Stettiner Opfer der Niederschlagung der Aufstände von 1970. Unter dem (an zwei Ecken angehobenen) Platz ist das Centrum Dialogu Przełomy.

There, a sculpture by Czesław Dźwigaj, the ‘Anioł Wolności’, ‘Angel of Freedom’, commemorates the Szczecin victims of the suppression of the 1970 uprisings. Under the square (raised at two corners) is the Centrum Dialogu Przełomy.

Im Raum zur ‘Revolta Grudniowa’ sind Fotos ausgestellt, die die Sicherheitskräfte am 17.Dezember 1970 gemach haben. Die Dargestellten wurden vielfach nach dem Aufstand schikaniert.

Photos taken by the security forces on 17 December 1970 are exhibited in the ‘Revolta Grudniowa’ room. The people depicted were often harassed after the uprising.

In einem Schaukasten liegen neben einem Schlagstock und einem Gedenkalbum die getarnten Kameras, mit denen die Fotos gemacht wurden.

The camouflaged cameras with which the photos were taken lie in a display case next to a baton and a memorial album.

Nach Besuch der Ausstellung gehe ich hinunter zur Oder.
After visiting the exhibition, I walk down to the river Odra.

Ich laufe das Ufer hinunter Richtung Norden, bis die Promenade versperrt ist – Ich sehe den Kran einer Werft und dahinter Anlagen des Hafens.
I walk down the shore to the north until the promenade is blocked – I can see the crane of a shipyard and behind it the harbour facilities.

Ich überquere die Oder. Um halbfünf wird es bereits dunkel. Bei der Brücke ‘Most im Inz l Labud’ schaue ich zeichnend einem der vielen Angler zu. Schließlich fängt er einen min 40 cm langen Barsch.
I cross the Odra. By half past four it’s already getting dark. At the bridge ‘Most im Inz l Labud’ I watch one of the many anglers. He finally catches a perch at least 40 cm long.

Weiter das Ostufer der Oder hinauf komme ich zur Langen Brücke – ‘Most Długi w Szczecinie‘.
Further up the east bank of the Odra I come to the Long Bridge – ‘Most Długi w Szczecinie’.

Im Fluss spiegeln sich die Laternen auf der Brücke und die Lichter der Stadt. Ich sehe die Silhouetten der Kirchen in der Altstadt (solange kein Angler davor steht).
The lanterns on the bridge and the city lights are reflected in the river. I can see the silhouettes of the churches in the old town (as long as no anglers are standing in front of them).

Beim westlichen Brückenkopf sind zwei alte Boote, das Schubschiff Konrad und die Daria, festgemacht.
Two old boats, the push boat Konrad and the Daria, are moored at the western bridgehead.

Um sieben fährt mein Bus zurück nach Berlin.
At seven my Bus back to Berlin is leaving.
