  • Nordostausgang der Messeunterführung

    Als ich mit meinem Kaffeebecher in der Hand vom Zentralen Omnibusbahnhof durch die Unterführung der Messedamm, Neue Kantstraße und Masurenallee gehe, ist unten gerade der Boden frisch gewischt und noch nass. Eine schwarz gekleidete junge Frau führt zwischen zwei Säulen der Halle einen Schwerttanz oder so etwas ähnliches auf, ihr gegenüber ein paar Typen mit Kameraausrüstung und Leuchten. Ich gehe den Nordostausgang hoch und hocke mich vor den Treppenabgang – Rolltreppen und Aufzug sind abgesperrt. Bald kommt eine andere Frau mit aufgetürmtem elfenartigen Tüllkleid – selbst genäht, wie sie einem bewundernden Passanten zuruft – und geht in die Unterführung runter. Während ich zeichne kommen immer wieder junge Menschen vorbei, die irgendwas von dem ‘tollen Drehort’ reden. Andere fragen wie üblich nach dem Weg zur nahen, aber nicht sichtbar ausgeschilderten S-Bahn. Als ich mich wieder an meinen Kaffee erinnere ist der eiskalt, genau wie meine Hände. Ich erkläre die Zeichnung für fertig und gehe zum Aufwärmen zurück in den ZOB.

    As I walk from the central bus station through the subway between Messedamm, Neue Kantstraße and Masurenallee with my coffee cup in my hand, the floor below has just been freshly mopped and is still wet. A young woman dressed in black is performing a sword dance or something similar between two pillars of the hall, opposite her a few guys with camera equipment and lights. I go up the north-east exit and crouch in front of the stairs – the escalators and lift are cordoned off. Soon another woman with a piled-up elf-like tulle dress – self-made, as she calls out to an admiring passer-by – comes and goes down into the subway. While I’m drawing, young people keep passing by, talking about the ‘great film location’. As usual, others ask for directions to the nearby, but not visibly signposted, S-Bahn. When I remember my coffee, it’s ice cold, just like my hands. I declare the drawing finished and go back to the ZOB to warm up.

  • Viele Zehntausende demonstrieren gegen rechte Politik

    Diesen Sonntag haben Campact und Fridays for Future in Berlin zum ‘Aufstand der Anständigen’ aufgerufen. Nach Veranstalterangaben kommen ca. 250 000, die Polizei geht von 160 000 aus.

    This Sunday, Campact and Fridays for Future have called for an ‘uprising of the decent’ in Berlin. According to the organisers, around 250,000 people are attending, the police assume 160,000.

    Am ‘Großen Stern’ gibt es Ansagen der Polizei, dass wegen der großen Zahl der Teilnehmenden nicht alle bis zur CDU- Zentrale vorgehen könnten und man doch daher am ‘Großen Stern’ bleiben solle. Ich bleibe am “Asylrecht verteidigen Lauti” stehen, dem Lautsprecherwagen eher linker Organisationen, die entsprechend weniger ‘gesprächsbereite’ Töne anschlagen als die Redner der Hauptveranstalter, die immer betonten, dass auch eine demokratische konservative Partei für den Erhalt der Demokratie wichtig sei, diese aber demokratische Standards und ‘Anstand’ wahren müsse.

    At the ‘Großer Stern’ there are announcements from the police that, due to the large number of participants, not everyone can go as far as the CDU headquarters and that people should therefore stay at the ‘Großer Stern’. I stop at the “Defend the right to asylum Lauti”, the loudspeaker van of more left-wing organisations, who are correspondingly less ”ready to talk” than the speakers of the main organisers, who always emphasise that a democratic conservative party is also important for the preservation of democracy, but that it must maintain democratic standards and ”decency”.

    Ich gehe doch noch in Richtung der CDU-Zentrale, komme aber nur bis zur Kreuzung einen Block davor, wo die Menge zurückstaut. Ich höre noch die abschließenden Reden, bevor die Veranstaltung um 18:00 offiziell beendet wird.

    I finally walk towards the CDU headquarters, but only get as far as the intersection one block in front, where the crowd backs up. I listen to the closing speeches before the event officially ends at 18:00.

  • Adenauer Haus

    Einen Tag nachdem die CDU und FDP- Fraktionen (mit sehr wenigen Ausnahmen) mit der faschistischen AfD für einen populistischen und fremdenfeindlichen, unserem Grundgesetz und EU-Recht widersprechenden Antrag gestimmt haben, protestieren tausende vor dem Adenauer Haus für unsere liberale Demokratie.

    One day after the CDU and FDP parliamentary groups (with very few exceptions) voted with the fascist AfD in favour of a populist and xenophobic resolution that contradicts our constitution and EU law, thousands protested in front of the Adenauer Haus for our liberal democracy.

    Campact, Eltern gegen Rechts und Fridays for Future haben am Samstag 25.1. die Demo gegen den Rechtsruck organisiert und 100 000 sind gekommen (Veranstalterangaben).

    “A sea of lights against the Right” – Campact, Parents Against the Right and Fridays for Future organised the demonstration against the shift to the right on Saturday 25 January and 100,000 people came (according to the organisers).

    Speakers include Christoph Bautz (Campact), Anna-Nicole Heinrich (Evangelical Church in Germany), Daniela Sepheri, Luisa Neubauer (Fridays for Future), Carolin Emcke and Nele Techen (DGB), there was music by Milky Chance and LUNA, among others, and lots of light-decorated posters, telephone lamps, candles, etc.

  • Grevenbroich – Köln – Leichlingen

    Ich pendle eine Arbeitswoche in Regionalzügen über Köln zwischen Grevenbroich und Leichlingen (Rheinland). Unterwegs zeichne ich Mitreisende.

    I spend a working week commuting on regional trains via Cologne between Grevenbroich and Leichlingen (Rhineland). I draw fellow travellers on the way.

  • Kimchi Kompost

    Ich habe Kimchi gemacht. Der Kohl ist komplett verarbeitet, von weiterem Gemüse bleibt dieser Abfall.
